'Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Spoilers: Elena to Lose Control in Episode 16, Synopsis and Promo Video Released For 'While You Were Sleeping' [WATCH]

Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) is gone but the evil Petrova doppelganger made sure she left behind a lethal parting gift to Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) which is the enhanced "Ripper" virus of Dr Wes Maxfield (Rick Cosnett). The synopsis for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5, Episode 16 titled "While You Were Sleeping" has been released as well as the promo video that teases about Elena reacting to the injected Ripper virus.

The promo video begins with Bonnie (Kat Graham) trying to calm down a distraught looking Elena. "This is the virus. It's in your head," Bonnie stated. The next clips showed Elena losing control and asking Damon (Ian Somerhalder) over the phone what is wrong with her.

The ending showed Damon and Elena initially arguing about their relationship but Damon finally gave in and gave Elena a kiss when she answered that she can't stop loving him. The synopsis for the upcoming episode also teased about the CW TV series moving forward with the story on the mysterious Travellers.

In the WetPaint report, the synopsis for Episode 16 reads: "When Stefan (Paul Wesley) tries to explain recent events to a very sick Elena, her first instinct is to call Damon (Ian Somerhalder). At the same time, Damon is trying to figure out how to make a disturbing confession to Elena. While going through Dr. Wes' files, Caroline (Candice Accola) discovers a frightening secret, and is surprised when Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey) appears, claiming to have the solution everyone is searching for. At Enzo's insistence, Caroline asks Stefan to meet her at a mysterious location where they are joined by a group of Travelers, including Sloan (guest star Caitlin McHugh), who reveals new information on the importance of doppelgangers."

The synopsis revealed as well about the new TVD character Luke (guest star Chris Brochu) appearing in the brand new episode as a gay student who seems to know Elena. However, the newbie Ripper vampire has no recollection of knowing Luke. "Recently dumped by his boyfriend, Luke proposes that he and Elena spend the break getting drunk together, but she sends him off on an urgent mission to find Bonnie (Kat Graham) and the 'newbie' witch, Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell). Damon finally tells Elena the truth about his recent activities, and they come to a new agreement about their relationship," the synopsis further read.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 airs Thursday nights at 8 pm ET on the CW Network but fans will have to wait for another TVD hiatus to be over. Episode 16 titled "While You Were Sleeping" is scheduled to air on March 20, 2014.
