The premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 titled "I'll Remember" revealed how the characters are now living their lives after Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie's (Kat Graham) death. Some were able to move on but there are still others struggling in accepting that they have lost a loved one, a friend and their town Mystic Falls.

Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6, episode 1 titled "I'll Remember."

The beginning of the premiere episode showed that Mystic Falls is currently free from the attacks of supernatural creatures but stepping outside of the border may not be a good idea because of a vampire lurking around to feed on humans. The next scenes showed how the gang from Mystic Falls carries on with their lives following the tragic events that happened in the previous season's finale.

Alaric (Matt Davis) is now a college professor struggling with his vampire life. "Elena you know I can smell that right? I'm teaching a class full of kids who look like blood sausages. Could you put that away?" Alaric stated when Elena started to drink blood from a tumbler cup during his class.

Matt (Zach Roerig) trains for the "Community Protection Squad" while he goes home to the Lockwood mansion to see his friend Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) spiraling out of control with girls, video games and alcohol because of Bonnie's death. Caroline (Candice Accola) is busy finding a spell that could end the Travelers' anti-magic boundary spell over Mystic Falls while his mother, Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre), tracks down the "border lurker" that attacks the town's residents.

Stefan (Paul Wesley) left Mystic Falls without saying goodbye to his friends and started a new life in Savannah, Georgia. The Salvatore vampire is now a car mechanic with a new love interest named Ivy (Emily Chang).

As for Elena (Nina Dobrev), Luke (Chris Brochu) has been giving her magical herbs that make her see, feel and talk to Damon. It eventually became Elena's fantasy world and a problem for her in finally accepting the reality that Damon is gone.

To make things worse, Caroline finds out Elena is the "border lurker" that her mom is tracking down when she attacked Sarah (Gabrielle Walsh), a new girl from New York searching for Mystic Falls. Sarah escapes and asks for help but Sheriff Forbes and Matt resolved Elena's mess before the new girl could reveal the identity of her attacker.

Caroline tells Tyler (Michael Trevino) about Elena and Luke's connection. Tyler, who assured Alaric that his temper is in control, had a close call in triggering his werewolf curse again when he confronted Luke about Elena's hallucinations and thirst for blood as an effect of the herbs that he gives her.

Elena and Stefan have a conversation over the phone about how to get through the day without falling apart. Elena thinks Stefan is finding a way that could make them bring Damon and Bonnie back but in reality, Stefan gave up and just moved on with his life away from his home and friends.

Caroline leaves Stefan a voicemail about how bad life is now with the group of friends drifting apart and how she needs help in undoing the anti-magic boundary spell over Mystic Falls. Stefan sees Caroline's voicemail but he decided to just smash his phone so his friends can no longer contact him.

Elena and Alaric have a father-and-daughter-like conversation where they talked about how much they hate being a vampire. Then, Elena tells Alaric that she wants him to compel her to forget that she loved Damon.

The ending scene showed what Damon and Bonnie are doing every day in the morning. Damon prepares breakfast and then serves Bonnie with the smiley pancake that has fangs in their cozy new home. "Every day I tell you I hate that," Bonnie stated. "And every day I do it anyway. Bon appétit," Damon responded before grabbing the newspaper and reads it.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 will return with episode 2 titled "Yellow Ledbetter" on Thursday, Oct 9.
