Spoiler Alert: This feature contains major spoilers on "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6, episode 10 titled "Christmas Through Your Eyes."
Bonnie (Kat Graham) spends the holiday season all alone in the 1994 prison while reminiscing the happy times she had with her best friends Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola). The witch sadly had to do the Mystic Falls Christmas tree decorating ceremony solo on the school's parking lot.
Caroline is surprised to see her mom Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) in her dorm room bringing the holiday spirit to cheer her daughter up. The sheriff even asked Stefan (Paul Wesley) to help in decorating Caroline's room but the blonde vampire is not really happy to see him after asking him several times "What are you doing here?"
Caroline is aware that her mother is trying to make her and Stefan close again and her anger towards Stefan was put aside when Sheriff Forbes felt woozy. Stefan and Caroline rush the sheriff to the hospital to find out what is wrong with her.
At the cemetery, Kai is reunited with his siblings after he kidnapped Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) at the medical center and made Tyler (Michael Trevino) convince Luke (Chris Brochu) and Liv (Penelope Mitchell) to help him merge with his twin sister.
Tyler explained that if Luke and Liv let Kai do the merge with Jo, they no long have the burden of their coven. Luke agreed to help even though he pointed out that Kai will still be their burden if he becomes the powerful leader of the Gemini coven.
Kai wants Jo to bring back her magic first before they can move on to the next step. Luke walked out after seeing Kai stab Jo twice in an attempt to reunite her magic from the knife.
Jo initially refused to have her magic back because she explains it should be done by choice. However, Jo changed her mind and agreed to do what Kai wants after Liv convinced her that she could be more powerful than Kai and when he hurt Liv.
At the hospital, Stefan and Elena find out that Sheriff Forbes has glioblastoma and she has been keeping it from her daughter for weeks now. Stefan decided that it should be him to deliver the heartbreaking news to Caroline about her mom's health condition.
Caroline needed someone to lean on after learning that her mom's glioblastoma is getting worse and chances of surviving through chemo or surgery looks dim. Stefan offered Caroline some comfort when he let the blonde vampire cry in his arms.
With Jo missing, Alaric (Matt Davis) asks for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena's help. Damon's plan is to find Kai and kill him. The Salvatore vampire asked Luke where they can find Jo and Kai. Damon also asked Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) to watch out for the psychotic witch roaming around Mystic Falls.
Matt agrees to help but did not tell Damon about his plan of killing Enzo. Matt succeeded in capturing Enzo with Jeremy helping him. Matt, the new Tripp (Colin Ferguson), throws the Augustine vampire in the back of the truck and drive towards Mystic Falls to kill him for killing Monique (Gabrielle Walsh).
Damon and Alaric head to the cemetery to save Jo and kill Kai. However, Jo convinced Alaric to keep Kai alive with the confidence that she can get stronger and find a way to defeat him during the merge.
Kai continues to annoy Damon, who was throwing rocks at the tombstone where he is chained up, by talking about the anti-magic boundary spell that the Traveler's cast over Mystic Falls. After figuring out that the spell is so big and it covers the entire town, Kai places his hand on the ground and started to absorb the magic from the spell.
Damon figures out that Kai is up to something when stopped talking and the chains around his hands melted. "You little magic sucker. You sucked up all that magic from the Traveler's spell," Damon stated before Kai escaped.
The anti-magic boundary spell is gone because Enzo did not die when Matt cross the Mystic Falls border. "It's a Christmas miracle," Enzo stated. Now, the tables have turned because Enzo wants Matt to help him deplete all of Stefan's happiness and then he will decide if Matt deserves to live or not.
Elena tells Damon that she wants to talk to someone after receiving the devastating news about Sheriff Forbes. Damon assures Elena that she can drop by the Salvatore mansion to talk about their crappy day.
Elena rang the doorbell and Damon opened the door. However, Elena gets confused because Damon cannot see her standing right in front of him. "Hello, anybody there?" Damon asked before closing the door looking confused himself.
Kai shows up and tells Elena that he put a cloaking spell on them. "How genius is that?" Kai declared before knocking Elena unconscious.
