Elena and Caroline (Candice Accola) are preparing for Bonnie’s birthday celebration even though their best friend is not around. Damon and Elena are having “the talk” about their kiss at the hospital when Kai (Chris Wood) showed up at the Salvatore mansion.

Kai asks for Damon and Elena’s help to give an apology letter to Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) because he could not find her even with the locator spell. Kai explains to Damon and Elena that some of Luke’s (Chris Brochu) traits also merged with him so he now knows how to feel bad, cry and have empathy towards his siblings.

Elena agrees to help Kai if he also helps in piecing together the Ascendant in order to get to Bonnie in the 1994 prison world. With Luke’s traits in him, Kai works on the Ascendant and brings Elena, Damon and Jeremy to see Bonnie in the 1994 prison world.

However, Bonnie could not hear them speak and they could not touch Bonnie so Elena, Damon and Jeremy must find a way to send their message to the Bennett witch. The trio must also quickly do it because Damon sees Bonnie drinking the bourbon that the two of them promised to drink before they commit suicide if they cannot find a way out the prison world.

At the dorm, Liv (Penelope Mitchell) mourns over the death of her twin brother, Luke.Tyler (Michael Trevino) comforts his girlfriend by telling her that he will help in getting her through.

Liv declares that she wants to kill Kai. Tyler tries to stop Liv’s plan but the witch used a spell to locate Kai and make Tyler unconscious so she can fulfill her plan and avenge her brother’s death.

While Stefan (Paul Wesley) looks after Caroline (Candice Accola), who wants to recover the Ms. Cuddles that she took from Bonnie when they were kids, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) is starting with his plan to ruin the younger Salvatore’s vampire life. The Augustine vampire somehow succeeds in interfering with the life of Stefan’s great-niece, Sarah Salvatore (Tristin Mays), through his reluctant helper Matt (Zach Roerig).

Back at the Salvatore mansion, Kai and Jeremy must make Bonnie see the address that Damon wrote down where she can get some magic powers. However, Liv shows up at the Salvatore mansion at starts attacking Kai.

The plan to get through to Bonnie got jeopardized for a moment but Kai and Jeremy were able to resume with their plan after Damon stopped Liv’s attack. In the 1994 prison world, Jeremy sees how broken Bonnie is from the loneliness that she felt while living alone away from her friends.

Bonnie records a message to Elena, Damon and Jeremy as she tries to kill herself by locking up in the garage and leaving Damon’s car running. Bonnie tells Jeremy that she wants him to go after the life that he wants so Jeremy thinks about his application at the Santa Fe Art Academy.

Bonnie becomes hopeful after realizing her grandmother’s advice of not giving up. Then, Bonnie notices that map with the address that Damon left as a clue so she heads on a road trip to go to Nova Scotia.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 returns with episode 14 titled “Stay” on Thursday night, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. ET on the CW Network.
