'The Vampire Diaries' stars Ian Somerhalder, Nikki Reed developing new sci-fi TV series for The CW
After "TVD," Somerhalder is looking to take a more active role behind the camera
Ian Somerhalder may no longer be CW’s prime leading man, that but does not mean he will not be there in any other capacity. Ian will be teaming up with Nikki Reed from “Twilight” to bring a new series to the CW as producer of “Transcience.” The pair recently launched Rare Birds Productions and are developing the series with Warner Bros. for TV network.
The upcoming series will centre on consciousness transfers, which in the story will become legal in the future. With this, an ambitious young musician will finally get the body and life that he wants. However, the procedure has side effects that will "send him down a rabbit hole where memory, identity and the past will start to collide in a very rough manner."
As “The Vampire Diaries” is about to end, some of the cast members may be seen once again on “The Originals,” which is a spinoff of the series. This will take over “The Vampire Diaries” timeslot when it ends in March. As for Somerhalder, he is expected to focus on this new series and is not expected to be appearing in “The Originals.”
In a short interview with Variety, Somerhalder talks about his new efforts as a producer. There, he reveals that he has never been as busy as he is now in his entire life. When asked what kind of shows he plans to make as producer, he reveals that he wants to venture into all kinds of storylines, whether they be scripted or unscripted. He is also interested in comedy, drama, documentaries or all. He also reportedly wants to anchor his new career on telling stories, which is what exactly he wants to do.
When asked how he feels about the imminent end of “The Vampire Diaries,” he reveals that he wants things to end on a good note. He and his team had a really amazing run. However, like all good things, it must come to an end. That, however, does not mean that it is totally over for “The Vampire Diaries” since it will still run on iTunes, Google Play, Netflix and other digital platforms. As for his character, Damon Salvatore, it looks like it is time to move on and expandd horizons in this new career as producer.
“Transcience” is written by Thomas Brandon, an award-winning LA-based screen writer. Brandon will also be supervising the flow of the show. The air date for the series is yet to be announced.
