Vampires rake in $7 billion in less than two years
Vampires, dead as they are, provide lifeline to the entertainment industry these days, raking in over $7 billion since Twilight hit the theaters in 2008.
It's not just the movies that continue to benefit from the vampire phenomenon. Books and Television also had increased revenue thanks to the likes of Stephenie Meyer and television series True Blood. Vampires are here to stay.
In television, The Hollywood Reporter estimates that True Blood will make $50-$75 million and Vampire Diaries will make $100-$125 million if both series will complete at least five seasons.
Vampire novels had also carved a profitable niche in the publishing industry raking in $1.6 billion in sales. Twilight novels had sold over 100 million copies since its publication.
The music industry has not yet fully benefited from the vampire phenomenon since only Twilight released soundtracks . But the Twilight soundtracks are always on the bestseller list every time they are released, selling about 5 million copies which is equal to $50 million.
Merchandise from vampire flicks and shows are also expected to do well. Twilight made over $500 million in merchandise sales and with the Halloween coming up, vampire-themed costumes are expected to earn as much as $100 million.
