‘Veep’ season 6 air date, Trump-akin character, news: All you need to know
“Veep” season 6 will show Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) trying to adjust to the life of a private citizen, after spending several years as vice-president and later as president. The production for the award-winning political comedy has already commenced.
How will the story follow?
David Mandel has already stated that "Veep" season 6 will follow the life of Selina Meyer as a citizen after she lost the presidential election in the show. He also revealed in an interview that Selina’s loyal assistant Gary (Tony Hale) will still be by her side. “One thing I can tell you is that Gary will be by [Selina's] side — and I would not want to be in his shoes. We've seen that she doesn't deal well with defeat and I think she's going to lose her quest for relevancy.”
Furthermore, cast member Tony Hale told TV Line that the new season will be “chaotic.”.“It’s post-presidency. With that comes a lot of breaking down and anxiety [for Selina & Co.]. Gary is probably losing his mind.”
New cast members
Since Donald Trump has taken the chair as president of the US, fans were eager to know if the "Veep" season 6 will also feature a character inspired from him. However, showrunner David Mandel says that there already exists one such character. It is Jonah Ryan (Timothy Simons).
“Basically he is not a millionaire, although I guess neither is Trump, but Jonah is a thin-skinned know-nothing who is temperamental and has horrific outbursts. And yet oddly, somehow, he struck a chord with the voters,” Mandal told in another interview.
Meanwhile, talks are also going on that another new character to be played by “Blunt Talk” actress Mary Holland will be added to the show. However, no official announcement has come forth as of yet. Hence, Holland’s role also remains a mystery.
Air date
HBO has not announced the air date for "Veep" season 6 as of yet. However, speculations are widespread that the show will be launched in April. “Veep” generally airs around the same time as “Game of Thrones” and “Silicon Valley.” Since, GOT has been pushed to summers instead of spring this year, it is expected to air sometime in July or after that. However, it is expected that “Veep” will air as usually scheduled during spring (most probably in April).
