Vending Machine Dispensing Google Android Gaming Apps Launches in Japan
Google Japan has decided to join its country's fascination with vending machines. The company has just launched a vending machine type in Tokyo that sells Android apps.
The Google Play machines, according to online portal engadget.com, will sell 18 different gaming titles, a mix of paid-for titles and free-to-play. More free and paid apps and games are expected to be added over time.
Using a smartphone equipped with Android 4.0 and NFC, the consumer just rests the device on the tray below the screen.
But in case you don't have an NFC-enabled device, Google Japan has a standby Nexus device which users can use in order to try out the new experience.
Launched on Tuesday, the three dedicated Google Play machines are all located in front of the Parco department store in Tokyo's Shibuya District.
The only difference this particular Google vending machine has against the other regular machines is that it doesn't hold any physical items for purchase.
The program is exclusive to Japan, according to androidcommunity.com, but could spread to other parts of the world if proven successful.
