‘Veronica Mars’ Is Back! Film Trailer Sees Murder, Mystery, Piz & Logan [VIDEO]
“Veronica Mars” is back, and she’s still sleuthing. Seven years after the critically acclaimed U.S. TV series had been cancelled, its highly anticipated (and fan-funded) film version is set to hit the big screen in March. But for now, fans would have to be satisfied with a sneak peak.
The over two-minute trailer has been released on Thursday, and sees the titular character, played by Kristen Bell, going back to what she does best: solving murder mysteries.
It’s been ten years in the film’s timeline, and Veronica has become a lawyer in New York, but has to return to her hometown in California to help ex-boyfriend Logan (Jason Dohring), who is accused of killing his pop star girlfriend, in clearing his name. And yes, she’s dating Piz (Chris Lowell).
“I need your help, Veronica,” Logan pleads at the beginning of the trailer, to which Veronica replies, “I don’t really do that anymore.”
But as we all know, Veronica can’t stay away from a good case, much less from Logan.
So although she’s with Piz at the beginning of the film, there’s a really big chance that she might end up with Logan.
There’s also the obligatory high school reunion scene that will expectedly satisfy any revenge fantasies viewers have on their former nemesis.
The original cast is back, including Enrico Colantoni (as Keith Mars), Tina Majorina (as Mac), Ryan Hansen (as Dick), Percy Daggs III (as Wallace), and Francis Capra (as Weevil). Plus, Veronica’s iconic camera makes an appearance, too!
Series creator Rob Thomas wrote a script for a feature film of the show following its cancellation in 2007, but Warner Bros wouldn’t want to fund it. So he and Bell turned to the crowd funding site Kickstarter to ask those interested to donate USD10 or more for the project.
On March 13, 2013, less than ten hours after the cast pleaded for support, the film project has amassed its goal of $2 million. Production commenced in the following June.
