In a press release from Pfizer through the company's website, it announces on Monday that they are selling Viagra directly to its customers through its very own site accessible through Viagra.com. This is a first among all manufacturers and is seen to create a follow suit to other big manufacturers in the industry.

Pfizer is employing a Viagra home delivery system through its site. This is good news for those men who felt a little embarrass coming to pharmacies to buy the medicine face to face. Men with erectile dysfunction will find the comprehensive eCommerce functionality of the site very convenient:

1. Men can submit a new Viagra prescription or refill an existing one

2. Estimate their co-pay in real time

3. Check the status of their order right from the privacy of their homes.

4. Free standard shipping is available in the continental United States and expedited shipping options are available for a charge

According to Pfizer, Viagra is their most counterfeited pill and the drawbacks of illegally bought Viagra were putting the company into bad light. But, most importantly, Pfizer wants to stop putting lives of people at risk when they buy fake Viagra from illegitimate websites. Pfizer sees that the problem of buying counterfeited drugs depends primarily on consumers' having difficulty discerning whether an online seller is legitimate or not. According to a 2011 survey of 1,000 men with ED, 4 in 5 men had a hard time distinguishing valid online pharmacies from the fake ones and only 1 in 3 men conduct online research before purchase.

Executive Director of NABP ( National Association of Boards Pharmacy), Carmen Catizone said that "Through our ongoing analyses, we've seen how fake pharmacy websites can lure consumers into buying counterfeit medicines with what seems to be an easy purchasing experience, but it may be putting their health risk.... We're pleased to see companies collaborating to develop and support solutions that will help patients obtain legitimate prescriptions online." NABP reported that in their review of 10,000 online sites selling the blue pill there is an alarming 97% per cent of sites that are not "Not recommended". These sites failed to pass the criteria to be among the legitimate online pharmacies.

Senior Director and marketing Group Leader for Primary Care Business Unit, Victor Clavelli, said that "There are almost 24 million searchers a year for Viagra online. By offering men with ED convenient access and legitimate alternative to purchase Viagra online, our hope is that Pfizer will help rein in the distribution against fake ED products.

Senior Vice president for Men's Health Network, Scot Williams also acknowledged Pfizer's move positively, "When you look at the way these websites market themselves and the range of drugs that are commonly featured, it's almost as though the counterfeits are targeting men and the health conditions that affect them. Our organization is deeply concerned about the proliferation of fake medicines sold online, and we applaud any efforts to combat the scourge of counterfeit drugs."

Pfizer reminds customers that a prescription is still required in order to purchase from the site.
