The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) on Wednesday cancelled the liquor licence of notorious Showgirls Bar 20 found in the central business district in Melbourne, ending a long legal battle by the Victoria Police against the strip joint.

At a hearing, the Victoria Police presented at least 20 incidence of violence and drunken behavior at the joint along King St. The latest violence in the strip joint seriously injured Max Champan from West Australia who was rushed to intensive care after being bashed at the bar.

The VCAT ruled that Licensee Planet Platinum Ltd should be disqualified from holding and managing a liquor licence. It also banned the company from being a partner in any liquor licence and gaining any beneficial interest from a liquor licence.

At the same time, two company directors have also been disqualified from holding a liquor licence or participating in the liquor industry for 18 months.

The Victoria Police presented a 160-page document detailing anti-social incidents, including one where a policewoman was kicked in the face while trying to subdue violent patrons.

Other incidents included bouncers bashing customers and a man who was beaten with a pool cue.

Insp Paul Ross said police welcomed the VCAT decision.

"Police are continuing to work in collaboration with Melbourne licensees on alcohol-related issues - including drunk and anti-social behaviour as well as violence," Insp Ross said.
