“Vikings” season 4 episode 18 observed the death of another important character of the show King Aelle (Ivan Kaye). Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) sons killed him brutally and blood eagled him at the same place where their father died. Surprisingly, his body was nowhere to be found there. Showrunner Michael Hirst has elaborated on that revealing if Ragnar will be back or not.
In the latest episode, King Aelle was pulled behind Ivar’s carriage taken to the place where Ragnar died. However, his body is missing from there. The episode didn’t show as to what happened to his body but speculations about the same are widespread among fans.
After watching “Vikings” season 4 episode 18, while some people speculate that Ragnar will be back on the show, there are others who say that his body was decomposed. Other theories suggest that his body may have been taken by thieves to spit upon him or maybe by his admirers to honour him for one last time. Showrunner Hirst has recently revealed as to what happened to his body.
“You might interpret it as - He’s risen again from the dead,” Hirst said reflecting that his body was decomposed. He added that he could have shown his decomposed body in the cave in the last episode. However, Hirst did not comment on why the decomposed body was not shown in the episode.
When asked if there are any chances of watching Ragnar once again on the show, Hirst told Entertainment Weekly that it’s “quite a lot of wishful thinking.” Hence, it is clear that Travis Fimmel is not coming back. Earlier as well, Hirst had revealed that there are very rare chances to see Ragnar in dreams or flashbacks or in spiritual forms. This implies that he is not going to be back on the show in any form – alive or spiritual.
