‘Vikings’ season 5: Harald’s predicament with Halfdan could affect Kattegat takeover
There’s no question that Harald (Peter Franzén) is aiming for glory in “Vikings” season 5. His failed attempt on Queen Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Kattegat isn’t going to stop him from fulfilling his ambition of becoming the king of all Norway. But can Harald overthrow his enemies on his own now that his brother, Halfdan (Jasper Pääkkönen), has decided to join one of Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) sons to travel the Mediterranean?
Spoiler alert: This article contains plot details about “Vikings” season 5. An official announcement has yet to be made regarding the air date of the season premiere. Episodes from the series’ previous seasons are available for Australian viewers to watch on SBS.
At the end of season 4, Halfdan decided to join Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and explore the Mediterranean Sea. The news caught Harald by surprise. After all, he needs his younger brother to be there with him in order to successfully take over Kattegat and the whole of Norway.
Harald is set to be one of the main contenders in the upcoming season of the History show. The Scandinavian warlord and king is not only out for some Lothbrok blood, he’s also coming for Lagertha. But with Halfdan following Bjorn on his voyage, it’s going to be difficult for King Finehair to defeat his enemies as it marks the first time that the brothers will be separated in the series, as Vikinger noted.
While it looked like Harald was “shocked” to find out about Halfdan’s expedition, it could also be just a ploy to stir up the competition. The brothers may be planning something to overthrow Ragnar’s sons. Taking out Bjorn is especially easier if he’s not with his brothers, although it remains to be seen if Halfdan is capable of betraying Ironside.
Then again, it’s not entirely impossible for Harald to take over Kattegat without his brother. Yes, it’s going to be difficult, but he may have something cooked up for the upcoming season. And one thing is for sure: Harald is gunning for the crown, and he’s not going to change his mind anytime soon.
He may have failed in his last attempt at a Kattegat takeover, but Harald isn’t stopping. After all, he is known in the histories as the first king of Norway. One way or another, Finehair gets his crown.
