‘Vikings’ season 5: Ragnar dies, his wisdom lives on
“Vikings” season 5 will not have Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) back. Fans have been waiting to see him back on the show. However, it seems this is not happening.
The official Twitter handle of the show has released a short video, which shows the journey of Ragnar, and how he has influenced various people in his life. The video states, “Ragnar may be gone, but his wisdom lives on.” (Watch the video below.)
Showrunner Michael Hirst also confirmed the same in an interview. He said that Ragnar’s presence will still be felt in the show. “So Ragnar doesn’t disappear. Actually, in pretty much the same way that Athelstan hasn’t disappeared from the show. His ghost, his presence — he’s still there,” he told Rotten Tomatoes.
In “Vikings” season 4 episode 18, Ragnar’s body was missing from the place where he died. His sons wanted to kill King Aelle (Ivan Kaye) at the same place. However, they were surprised when they did not find the body. This is what led to speculations that Ragnar might come back in “Vikings” season 5, and that he did not die. However, Hirst had dismissed the rumours at that time.
“It’s fuelled quite a debate on social media, people speculating that Ragnar will come back and he isn’t really dead. Which is, I think, quite a lot of wishful thinking,” Hirst told Entertainment Weekly. About Ragnar’s missing body, he said that it decomposed. “I suppose we could have had a look in at the decomposed body, which I wouldn’t have liked very much. You might interpret it as: He’s risen again from the dead."
Travis Fimmel also confirmed that he would not return to the show. “I’m not returning. It sort of doesn’t make sense. My character is an atheist so I’m not going to be coming up in any ghost, religious ghostly images or anything,” he told the Hollywood Reporter previously.
While Ragnar will not come back to the show in any form, his wisdom however will live on. His reflection will be seen on his sons. Ubbe and Bjorn will want to accomplish his dreams of settling in England. Ivar as well as Bjorn will become even more famous that Ragnar. (Read more on the links below.)
“Vikings” season 5 will be back on TV this year though no date has been confirmed yet. (Read about the air date of fifth season on the link below.) The show airs in Australia on SBS One.
