35-year-old Vanessa-Mae who was born in Singapore but grew up in London is set to represent his father’s home country, Thailand in a skiing competition at the 2014 Winter Olympics after passing the qualification round in Slovenia over the weekend.

Without a world top 500 player in skiing, Thailand can send a participant to the Winter games if one competitor averages less than 140 penalty points in five races—something that Vanessa-Mae, or officially Vanessa Vanakorn, achieved in the races in Slovenia.

FIS, skiing’s official governing body has yet to confirm the qualification but is expected to do so in the next few days.

“It has been my dream to be a ski bum since I was 14. This is something I am determined to do. I wanted to compete for Thailand because there is a part of me which I have never celebrated - being Thai. I have no delusions about a podium or even being in the top 100 in the world," said Vanessa-Mae in an interview with the Daily Telegraph in 2013.

The former child prodigy in music describes her style as “violin techno-acoustic fusion,” which has produced album sales of over several million since entering the scene in 1990.
