Virgin Blue working with Tourism Queensland to boost economy
Virgin Blue Group of Airlines (ASX: VBA) is working in partnership with Tourism Queensland following the floods to help bring back as much business as possible to local communities.
The airlines today launched a 'Queensland Shines' sale with up to 50 per cent off flights to selected Queensland holiday destinations.
Fares start from $48 and are on sale until midnight Friday January 21, unless sold out earlier, according to Virgin Blue.
Chief executive John Borghetti said "We are offering flight specials for the next 48 hours to encourage all Australians to visit Queensland."
"As a Queensland company we want to do everything we can at Virgin Blue to help." Mr Borghetti said.
Virgin Blue has so far raised more than $1.2 million to donate to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal and offered free of charge carriage for emergency services workers and medical professionals travelling to Queensland during the floods.
During the floods, Virgin Blue has supported the St John's Ambulance Service, the SES, the Salvation Army, Department of Community Safety, Department of Community Services and Standards and the Red Cross through providing nearly 400 free seats for travel to flood ravaged areas.
