Virgin Blue's systems back on track
Technical Glitch
Australia's second biggest airline Virgin Blue has announced that its reservation and check-in systems are now back in business after another technical glitch occurred early this morning.
Although two domestic flights were cancelled this morning, Virgin Blue said in on its website: "Our systems are operational. All forms of check-in are currently available for use."
The airline's computer system had some trouble at 5:00 a.m. local time causing another spate of flight delays around the country and a manual way of checking in passengers once more, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported earlier on its website.
A computer glitch on Sept. 26 affecting Virgin Blue check- in counters left thousands of passengers in the country stranded, the Australian newspaper reported on its website at the time, citing company spokesman Colin Lippiatt. Some Virgin Pacific international flights were also affected, according to the report.
"Our systems are operational," Virgin Blue said on its website. "All forms of check-in are currently available for use." Two domestic flights were cancelled this morning, the airline said.
On Sunday, Virgin Blue staff nationwide had to process check-ins and cancellations by hand as the computer system malfunctioned. The flight delays redounded until Monday and this early Tuesday morning.
''If you are still awaiting flights, we have commenced rebooking your flights and will contact you as soon as we have your new flight details,'' Virgin Blue said on its website.
Passengers who had flights cancelled yesterday and were also forced to stay in Sydney are being told to contact the airline's customer service centre - but are warned they face lengthy delays for help.
The spokesman said all stranded passengers would be put in a flight today and those still not booked must contact the airlines immediately.
Virgin Blue and space frontier
The airline computer glitch did not deter Branson and his team to launch his so-called Virgin Galactic, which is a space tourism project, in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. (See detailed story: Virgin Galactic: Branson makes space travel his next frontier)
Branson said in a press conference that within 18 months commercial space travel will be made possible as well as check-ins in space hotels.
