Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had geared up in hockey skates and recently attended a training session for young ice hockey players.
Now this is something we don’t see everyday - - a world leader in his skating gear.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had geared up in hockey skates and recently attended a training session for young ice hockey players.
According to The Moscow Times, Putin sported a blue uniform with number 11 at the back, complemented with a red helmet when he controlled the puck as he joined the teenage players of two teams: the White Bears and Forward. The training session was held at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium and the Russian leader was seen playing for a 40-minute session.
"It's an exciting and energetic sport," Prime Minister Putin, said according to The Moscow Times.
The leader added as he was leaving the stadium, perspiring and breathing heavily: "It reminds me of mountain skiing, it's less traumatic than soccer."
Putin said The Moscow Times revealed that he only started learning how to skate a couple of months ago.
He also told reporters that skating is not new to him as he first did when he was younger, adding he did not like it.
"My legs went apart at once, and I decided this sport was not for me," The Moscow Times quoted Putin as telling reporters. "But now I like it very much."
The Russian leader said The Moscow Times is known as keen presenting his physical fitness. Prime Minister Putin was also photographed ‘bare-chested’ while horseback riding and swimming butterfly in a Siberian river. The leader is also a good skier and is said to be in the ‘forefront’ in the preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
