The Voice Australia 2013, Final 'Showdowns:' Team Delta's Celia Pavey, Team Joel's Lyric McFarland, Both Going Through?
The Voice Australia 2013 held its final "Showdowns" Monday night. Contestants on Team Delta and Team Joel visibly excite the judges, with Celia Pavey and Lyric McFarland drawing the most raves. How did your favourite contestant perform?
Team Delta: Celia Pavey, Tim Morrison, Nathan Allgood, Ben Goldstein
Celia Pavey started off the competition with "Woodstock" by Joni Mitchell. Celia has been a popular early favourite on The Voice Australia, charming the audience with her modern twist on popular folk ballad "Scarborough Fair" during Blind Auditions (Episode 1). She was mesmerizing again with the Mitchell number, prompting Delta Goodrem to say she wants to "protect" the young artist.
Tim Morrison went up next with "Learn to Fly" by Foo Fighters. Delta gave him loads of style-related tips, but what didn't work quite well was his performance overall. He's got the energy, but it did seem a bit off on The Voice stage - from the vocals to the theatrics.
Nathan Allgood did better than Tim. He took on Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man," and engaged Seal in his number. Seal even said he liked Nathan's voice better than Bruno's. That said, Nathan is expected to get a ticket either via public votes or judges' save.
Ben Goldstein performed "Waiting in Vain" by Bob Marley and pushed on Joel Madden's Jamaican switch. "Great job, had them girls going crazy man, we jammin'!" Joel said. The rest of the judges also enjoyed the number.
The Voice Australia 2013 is likely to see Celia Pavey and Nathan Allgood go through Tuesday night. Ben Goldstein is still in the race, but things don't seem promising for Tim Morrison.
Team Joel: Michael Stangel, Kathy Hinch, Lyric McFarland, Danny Ross
Michael Stangel sang an American Idol champ's song: "Home" by Phillip Phillips. Michael makes Joel so proud that he's visibly emotional after the number. All the judges loved Michael. (In The Voice "Battles" round, Delta chose Rob Edwards over Michael, and Joel saved him for his team.)
Kathy Hinch covered Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love." She didn't get half the love the judges showered on Michael. Delta hinted Kathy was not convincing, and Ricky Martin didn't feel a performer-audience connection.
Lyric McFarland sang Al Green's "Let's Stick Together" and inspired the judges to over-praise. Lyric is another popular favourite on The Voice. Seal said she's "Aretha Franklin-esque." She does not mess up and is fairly good. She sounds promising.
Danny Ross performed "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix. "You're the most original artist in the show," Seal told him. More than anything, Danny's confidence is his biggest asset in the competition.
Who do you think should go through to the next round of The Voice Australia 2013? Michael Stangel could go through by public votes. Lyric McFarland could stay via judge's call. It's not looking so good for Kathy Hinch and Danny Ross, though.
