'The Voice Australia' 2017 season 6, episode 1 recap: Hoseah Partsch, Robin Johnson, Gemma Lyon make their mark
'The Voice Australia' 2017 Episode 1 recap
“The Voice Australia” 2017 kicked off on Monday night with the first round of Blind Auditions. Though the show had low ratings in the last season, this year promises an exciting ride. The star of the evening was a teenager named Hoseah Partsch, who impressed the judges with “Almost is Never Enough” by Ariana Grande.
Partsch, who lived in a one-bedroom apartment with his extended family in New Zealand until he moved to Melbourne, said he hoped to win the competition and buy a bigger house for his grandparents. Boy George was the first to approve his entry into the reality series. The 17-year-old began singing by playing the keyboard, which he said he recently learnt all by himself. George compared his singing to that of Stevie Wonder, adding that his style is “something very personal, like being in a church.”
“Even when we don’t have money or food on the table, we still have smiles,” Partsch said, who was present on the show with his extended family. Coach Kelly Rowland was moved to tears by Partsch's performance and added that she “had goosebumps all over.” Seal found his voice “soulful,” while coach Delta Goodrem begged him to make her his coach. Partsch, however, chose George to be his coach, saying, “God bless each and every one of your souls” to other coaches.
Another singer who left his mark in the first episode of season six of “The Voice Australia” 2017 is Robin Johnson. George called Johnson “my biblical first child” and pleaded him to join his team. Goodrem literally begged him to join by saying she won't let him down. Johnson chose Team George.
Another contestant, Gemma Lyon, chose Destiny Child’s “Say My Name,” impressing Rowland so much, she used her foot to push the red button. Goodrem stood on the chair and copied Rowland. Afterwards, Rowland went onstage to perform alongside Lyon, making sure she joined her team. Check out her performance below.
Monday’s episode of “The Voice Australia” 2017 featured single mothers who wanted to make their success stories on the show, teenagers with exceptionally good voice and some really awful ones, too. By the end of the Monday night's episode, Goodrem had zero contenders in her team, while Team George and Team Rowland had two each. Robin Johnson and Hoseah Partsch joined Team George, while Gemma Lyon and Bojesse Pigram joined Team Rowland. Team Seal opened with Berni Harrison. The Blind Auditions continue tonight at 7.30 p.m. on Channel Nine.
