“The Voice Australia” has found another operatic singer to join their repertoire, and just like before, they also didn’t expect such hypnotic voice to come from a tattooed guy. Matthew Garwood successfully passed the blind audition on Monday night after wowing the coaches with his rendition of “All I Ask of You.”

When Matthew took “The Voice” stage on Monday in black sleeveless shirt, showcasing his colourful tattooed body, the audience members were perhaps expecting him to sing something else other than a well-known opera classic.

But that’s exactly what he did. His rendition of “The Phantom of the Opera” song was so flawless that the coaches – Ricky Martin, will.i.am, Joel Madden and Kylie Minogue – forgot to even ask his name after his performance.

The coaches all appeared to be mesmerised with Matthew’s voice, but with only a few seats left in each of their team, they had to be careful whom they would be adding next.

Ricky didn’t need to think twice. Halfway through Matthew’s song, he turned his seat to welcome the performer in his team. The other coaches looked as if they were deliberating as well, but chose not to press their button in the end.

Needless to say, the four superstars were stunned during the big reveal.

“I know what happened,” will.i.am supplied. “You guys were messing with us, right. Somebody else was singing, and you just took his place, huh?”

With all the excitement of seeing Matthew as the face behind the spellbinding voice they have just heard, the coaches forgot to ask his name.

Ricky volunteered to go to the Green Room to ask his new protégé’s name.

“You know, with all the excitement, we forgot to ask you your name, bro,” the Puerto Rican star asked Matthew, which he duly supplied.

In an interview with NewsCorp after the show, Matthew explained why he thinks “The Voice Australia” is the perfect venue to display his talent.

“It’s what’s so great about The Voice. You aren’t judged on your appearance and why it’s perfect for me,” he said.

“I could go up there and completely feel comfortable in what I (was) doing without being judged on appearance.”

With Matthew in, Ricky’s team has been completed by Monday.

Ricky also has another opera singer in his team. Jess Berney performed “Pie Jesu” in a previous blind audition episode of the show.

Just like Matthew, the audience were not expecting the 24-year-old with the Mohawk hairstyle to belt out a melody as soothing as “Pie Jesu.”

But while Matthew has overwhelmingly positive response on social media, Jess’ reception was divided, with some critics not so impressed with her performance.
