‘The Voice’ Season 9 'The Knockouts Premiere' highlights: Jordan, Madi, Blaine and Braiden win this round [Watch Videos]
Monday’s episode of “The Voice” Season 9 kick-started "The Knockouts." Rihanna’s presence on the show as the guest mentor made the episode even more special. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without spectacular performances from crowd favourites Andi and Alex, Blind Joe, Blaine Mitchell and Braiden Sunshine.
"The Voice" 2015's "The Knockouts Premiere" started with a performance by identical twins Andi and Alex from Team Adam. The sisters performed “Stupid Boy” by Keith Urban. Rihanna found them to be incredible but suggested that they should be bold individually as well. The next to perform on stage from Team Adam was Blaine Mitchell. Adam stole Blaine from Team Blake in the Battle Rounds and save him from being dumped. He performed “Hold Back the River” by James Bay. Blaine’s performance impressed Blake as he confessed that he screwed up by letting him go from his team. Adam declares Blaine as the winner of this Knockout Round. Alex and Andi go back home as they were not stolen by anyone.
The next hopefuls on stage were Braiden Sunshine and Ellie Lawrence from Team Gwen. Braiden performed “Feeling Good” by Cy Grant/Gilbert Price and his performance helped him win a standing ovation from all the judges. Rihanna appreciated Braiden’s voice and gave him some notes. Ellie, on the other hand, performed “Cool for the Summer” by Demi Lovato. It was a tough call for Gwen but she eventually chose Braiden over Ellie.
The next contenders on the stage are Blind Joe and Barrett Baber from Team Blake. Barrett performed “Colder Weather” by Zac Brown Band. Rihanna figured out the weaker parts of Barrett and asked him to work on the soft notes. Blind Joe performed “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys” by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Joe’s performance left an emotional impact on Rihanna. But Blake ultimately chose Barrett over Blind Joe.
Team Pharrell’s Amy Vachal and Madi Davis were the next contestants to perform in the knockouts. Madi performed “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell. Rihanna took the opportunity to compare Madi to Grammy award winner Adele. Amy performed “A Sunday Kind of Love” by Etta James. Pharrell chose Madi as the winner of this round. Adam and Blake pressed their buzzers to steal Amy. But Amy chose to go with Adam.
Chance Peña and Ivonne Acero from Team Blake were next to perform in the "The Voice" 2015 "Knockout Rounds." Chance performed “Demons” by Imagine Dragons and Ivonne performed “Part of Me” by Katy Perry. Blake declared Ivonne as the winner over Chance.
Jordan Smith and Viktor Király were the last "The Voice" Season 9 contenders to perform from Team Adam. Jordam performed “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele and Viktor performed “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Jordan’s performance won a standing ovation from all the judges and helped him win this knockout round. Viktor will stay in the competition though because Gwen was quick enough to steal him for her own team.
