‘Walking Dead’ Comic Creator Robert Kirkman: Daryl Dixon is Not Gay [VIDEO]
Let’s get something straight: Daryl Dixon is not gay. “Walking Dead” comic book creator Robert Kirkman has finally revealed the sexuality of the famous TV character.
Actor Norman Reedus has previously expressed his desire to play Daryl gay. However, it appears his wish didn’t come true as Kirkman has already put a stop to speculations about the issue.
‘The Walking Dead’ Fan Favourite Daryl Dixon Maybe Gay, Creator Robert Kirkman Says
“We play Daryl Dixon as being somewhat asexual on the show. He’s a very introverted character and I think that’s some of his appeal,” Kirkman told “Talking Dead” on Sunday.
He also noted mentioning early on about the possibility of making Daryl gay. It caused a ruckus online. And although he was fine with the idea of making Daryl gay, as was the network, they ultimately didn’t make the crossbow-wielding hero gay.
Kirkman was referring to a letter column on the comic’s issue no. 130, released earlier this year, in which he hinted on Daryl’s sexuality. A fan pointed out that Daryl, one of the few characters in the show who wasn’t based on a comic book character, was similar to the character Jesus, also a tough guy who is gay. Kirkman said that they would be tackling the issue on the show in the future.
“I can make it official: Daryl Dixon is straight,” Kirkman declared on Sunday. There was no reason given as to why they decided not to go through with his previous idea.
With Daryl’s sexuality out of the question, the show will now be introducing someone else to perhaps represent the GLBT community. When the show comes back for its season’s second half, it will be introducing a “very prominent gay character” from the comic books.
SPOILER BELOW:
Meanwhile, the show managed to shock viewers once more when two characters were killed on the mid-season finale on Sunday. Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) was fatally shot by Dawn (Christine Woods), who in turn was killed by an enraged Daryl.
The second half of season 5 will return on February 8.
