The year 2013 gave "The Walking Dead" fans 8 remaining episodes of season 3 and 8 episodes of season 4. The entire package was action-packed and had its share of highs and lows. 2014 is knocking at the door, and we are ready to welcome the remaining 8 episodes of season 4 and 8 of season 5.

Let's have a look at 2013's epic "The Walking Dead" moments.

1. We met Morgan again: In one of the episodes of "The Walking Dead" season 3, the creators ignored the prison and Woodbury and focused entirely on Rick and Carl Grimes. They went to Rick's hometown to fetch weapons, Michonne also accompanied the Grimes. His hometown had changed, and he finally met Morgan Jones. We first saw Morgan Jones in season 1, when he guided Rick, who had just returned from the hospital. Morgan appeared in depressing state and shared his story with Rick in season 2 episode 12 titled "Clear." His zombie wife finally managed to enter the house and bit his son Duane. Rick was able to relate to the story. Morgan advised Rick to get out of the downward spiral as it would have negative effects.

2. Merle's Death: Merle Dixon was one hell of a character. He was mean. He was bad. Yet, we liked him. Yes, we did. The Dixon brothers' tale was great. He (Merle) tried to save the group by sacrificing Michonne but later sacrificed his own life. He indulged in guns, booze and rock 'n' roll in episode 15 titled, "This Sorrowful Life." When Daryl encountered him, he was turned into a walker. We saw tears in Daryl' eyes. It was one of the best death scenes in season 3.

3. Hershel Greene - the Prison hero: "TWD" season 4 saw a very different side of Hershel. He emerged as the leader of the prison cells. Later, he also took care of the sick one in the prison and kept her healthy daughter, Maggie away from Glenn Rhee. He also cracked jokes about spaghetti Tuesdays on Wednesdays.

4. The Horrifying Prison War! The Governor summoned his folks and formed a brand new army to take over the prison. He made matters worse when he introduced that mighty killing machine - "the tank." The Governor had Hershel and Michonne as hostages. The epic moment arrived when Rick tried to reason out with the Governor. All the Governor did was, he whispered, "liar" and beheaded Hershel. His death saddened us. Michonne also sliced the Governor and later Lilly killed him. Baby Judith was missing from the scene. Rick and Carl cried and feared that she might be dead.

The group was separated. Rick and Carl are together while Glenn and Maggie are not.

"The Walking Dead" season 4 post mid-season finale episodes air February 9, 2014.
