'The Walking Dead' Season 5: Kevin Durand As Negan, Two Reasons Why He Fits The Role
"The Strain" actor Kevin Durand was believed to have been considered to play the role of the villain Negan in Season 5 of "The Walking Dead." However, fans are probably crushed to learn that the villain will not be popping up anytime soon in the series. The actor has personally denied his involvement in the AMC zombie drama.
According to comicbook resources, Kevin Durand denied that he has been approached by "The Walking Dead" producers to be part of the series. Twitter user Tony @tonykirkland19 asked the Canadian about his possible portrayal of the iconic Negan, to which the actor tweeted back and straight out said, "No." He claimed he was only misinterpreted to play the part. (Check his tweet below.)
Rumours swirled of Kevin Durand's involvement in the series when Nuke the Fridge claimed the actor was asked by the show's producers to play Negan in "The Walking Dead." Apparently, it's understandable why the actor's statements would be misinterpreted. "I've had a lot of people with 'The Walking Dead' talk to me, mentioned that they see me for a character named 'Negan,' but I haven't read the comic," Durand said during a conference call for "The Strain."
However, despite the actor's clarification on his statements, Movie Pilot claims there are two reasons why Kevin Durand would be perfect as Negan. It would reportedly not be a surprise if the actor will eventually be asked to give life to the ruthless villain.
Negan possesses a strong stature, "a well-built man" according to writer Mark Newton. The character "has a penchant for swearing" and uses ordinary tools for his weapons. According to Newton, Negan "wields a barbed-wire covered baseball affectionately known as Lucille." Durand supposedly fits this description as he has previously portrayed numerous bad guy roles. Fans may have seen him as Martin Keamy in "Lost" and recognised his face behind Hugh Jackman's boxing opponent, called as the "BLOB," in "Wolverine: Origins."
Additionally, playing the vampire slayer Vasiliy Fet in FX's "The Strain" proves he can turn any blunt tool into a weapon in defeating the undead. He can even "maintain a bad-ass pose while firing a gun," according to Newton.

However, "The Walking Dead" may not see Negan appearing soon or in Season 5. The Season 4 finale, according to Movieweb, ended based on Issue 48 of the comics source. Negan's presence is not felt until Issue 100. Movieweb reports that producer Robert Kirkman said the executioner's debut may need some space between The Governor's death in the season finale.
@tonykirkland19 @TheStrainFX No. I guess I was misinterpreted. I'm way too busy killing vamps. Thanks for watching @TheStrainFX
