‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Episode 9 recap: Daryl’s grenade-launcher is the saviour in ‘No Way Out’

Last Wednesday, the first four minutes of “The Walking Dead” Season 6, Episode 9, was released. Now, fans have had mixed reactions after watching the entire premiere episode. Here is a quick recap of what happened in the episode. Do comment on what you thought about "No Way Out."

[Spoiler Alert] The walkers have already entered Alexandria, but Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has a master plan to get survivors to safety. But something goes terribly wrong. “The Walking Dead” Season 6 has returned after a short break and Rick is with his nascent love Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge) and her two boys.

Priest Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) is also there with him along with Rick’s boy Carl (Chandler Riggs). They are all covered with zombie guts to mask their body odour so that they can walk the streets unmolested and unbitten.

“The Walking Dead” Season 6 Episode 9 “No Way Out” opens with Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) on the road. They have been pulled over by some brigands on bikes, Negan’s people.

The leader (Christopher Berry) threatens to kill everybody, but Daryl somehow finds the grenade launcher that Abraham has secretly taken. There’s a blast and then there’s none of the bikers left.

Back in Alexandria, Rick and his group ultimately has their cover blown. Sam gets bit, so does Jessie. However, Jessie gets hold of Carl’s hand and he’s nearly bitten when Rick chops her hand off.

Amidst the chaos, Carl drops his pistol and Ron (Austin Abrams) gets hold of it. He quickly points the pistol towards Rick. His murderous intent is clear and he shoots. Right at that moment, Michonne (Danai Gurira) puts her blade right through his back and through his guts. The bullet zooms past Rick and hits Carl in the eye.

Glenn (Steven Yeun) tries to attract the walkers to him and not Maggie (Lauren Cohan). He nearly dies but then array of bullets are showered at the zombies. Sasha and Abraham are the ones shooting at the zombies from the other side of the wall.

Carl is now in the hands of the not-so-experienced doctor (Merritt Wever). Rick cleans himself of the zombie guts, grabs an axe and goes out to bury the hatchet. He soon loses his cool and starts splitting zombies like an experienced farmer chopping wood. Soon he joined by Father Gabriel and Eugene (Josh McDermitt).

However, zombies far outnumber them when Daryl comes to their rescue. He pours tanker fuel into the ornamental lake and sets it on fire with the grenade launcher. The zombies walk right into the flame.

"The Walking Dead" airs every Monday on Foxtel at 1.30pm and 8.30pm.
