‘The Walking Dead' Season 6 updates: 'Ricktatorship is back,' Lauren Cohan teases 'Wolves' heartless foes
Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” premiered in the U.S. on Sunday, Oct. 11, and it showed the return of the strong-willed leader Rick Grimes, played by actor Andrew Lincoln. Meanwhile, Lauren Cohan teases the “feral” and “heartless” foes with the Wolves.
Episode 1 of “The Walking Dead” Season 6 features Lincoln’s character, Grimes, in full leadership mode as he tried to teach Alexandria citizens how to survive in the zombie ridden world. The character’s need for absolute control when things are not going well, coined by fans as “Ricktatorship,” according to Telegraph, will have the Alexandria community preparing for a massive zombie attack mission.
The Season 6 premiere episode of “The Walking Dead” also introduced intriguing black and white flashback scenes, which showrunner Scott M. Gimple explained to TVLine was a “special thing” they decided to do for the premiere and something that they “absolutely might do again” in future episodes.
“From an aesthetic standpoint, it was always something I was very interested in doing,” he added. “From a narrative standpoint, it really worked with this episode… I wanted the audience to not have to sit there… I wanted it to be effortless for them. It just so happened that it also really complimented the narrative… The world of the black and white story does tell a specific story unto itself that compliments the color story.”
Gimple also described how season 6 is all about Grimes’ group and how these beloved “The Walking Dead” characters will do “remarkable things” in the new season. The showrunner even stated how the crew delivered “film-level stuff on a television schedule” and that the scope and intensity shown in the past five seasons “is not over.”
“It keeps going,” he said to TVLine. “It’s like the national debt. We are going bigger every year.”
Meanwhile, actress Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene in “The Walking Dead,” told E!News that their new enemy, the Wolves, isn’t to be trifled with. "Like their name suggests, they are feral and they are heartless," she warned. "Unbelievably, they are actually humans, but there's nothing human about their behavior, which is bad, bad news."
Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” airs every Sunday on AMC in the U.S. In Australia, the season 6 premiere episode will air on Foxtel’s FX channel on Monday, Oct. 12.
