'The Walking Dead’ Season 6B spoilers: 'Many people die' in Season 6B; showrunner talks Negan, terror-filled Valentine's Day premiere
Episode 8 of “The Walking Dead” may have marked the midseason finale for Season 6. However, beloved characters of the hit AMC series will face even greater challenges in the upcoming Season 6B, as “The Walking Dead” showrunners hint “explosive” and “gargantuan” things to come in the show.
In an interview with “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick, showrunner Scott Gimple teased that the Season 6B premiere will be one of the “biggest episodes” in the series, E News reports. Although Gimple didn’t share other details, he mentioned that episode 9 of “The Walking Dead” Season 6, which is set to air in the U.S. on Feb. 14 next year, will be filled with chaos and terror.
"We will be wooing you with the weirdest of Valentine's Day gifts: Chaos, terror, heartbreak, heroics, tragedy, and terror,” he said during his “Talking Dead” interview. “Yes, that's two terrors. Friends, in all seriousness, episode nine is one of the biggest episode we have done. Greg [Nicotero] and the astounding cast and crew made magic... This one is gargantuan... This Valentine's Day, we are giving you The Walking Dead mid-season premiere."
Robert Kirkman, creator of “The Walking Dead” and Gimple’s fellow executive producer, also commented during the “Talking Dead” interview that Season 6B will feature the death of many characters. He teased, "So many people die. So many."
Gimple also told USA Today that episode 9 of season 6 will feature “incredibly emotionally loaded situations.” If the premiere episode of Season 6A had around 30,000 walkers, Gimple stated that Season 6B will also have a lot zombies invading Alexandria.
“It’s just incredibly explosive stuff,” he explained. “We had 30,000 in 601, I shouldn’t give the numbers of walkers in 9, but they are all in Alexandria walls. It’s a very different situation…”
He also explained that the villain Negan will be different from other bad guys that Anthony Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and other beloved characters have encountered in the series. Gimple told USA Today that Negan, to be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, is a “driven” and “totally unique character” that will be introduced to “The Walking Dead” series.
Gimple also explained to TVLine that Negan will be terrifying since he has a “charismatic and funny” side, but he’s not hesitant to kill someone off.
“[Negan] isn’t a psychopath…” he stated. “[He’s] even sort of friendly. But he just kills, and it doesn’t bother him... He’s not nuts. But you can’t reason with him because he’s got it all worked out. He knows exactly the way the world works. And he’s the one in control.”
Fans would have to wait until next year to see just how explosive Season 6B will be. “The Walking Dead” Season 6B will premiere in the U.S. on Feb. 14, 2016.
