Andrew Lincoln spoke with EW regarding fan reactions to season 6’s ending. This is when the person on the receiving end of Negan’s barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat was not shown. While Lincoln admits that they do not want fans to be divided with their reactions every time they do a season finale, he likes how people still talk about it.
When asked about how he dealt with the negative reactions to the cliff hanger, he responded that they handed the show over to the fans at that point. It was already a done deal and that the show heavily depends on the viewers with a symbiotic relationship.
What is important is that they love and value their fans, he said, and that they find it amusing that viewers are so deeply engaged with it that they start forming their own convictions. Whatever their opinions are, whether they are good or bad, all is respected and valued by the cast and crew of “The Walking Dead.”
Norman Reedus, who plays the bad boy biker Daryll in the series, has not assured anyone on social media that his fan-favourite character is in good hands. All that he reveals is that the premiere is “mind blowing.” To add to the excitement, executive producer Scott M. Gimple teased viewers yet again by revealing that what happens in the first episode of season 7 will shatter the lives of those who survive.
In the teaser, Austin Amelio’s Savior is seen riding Daryl’s hog and also sporting his leather vest. It is known that Daryl is very unlikely to welcome this. He even said earlier that the only way that Dwight could ever take a spin on his hog would be over his dead body. Whether or not this would be taken literally or such events turned out in some other unexpected way can only be known once the next season airs.
“The Walking Dead” season 7 premieres October 9, 2016 on FOX. It also airs on Foxtel in Australia.
