‘The Walking Dead’ season 8: Michonne could appear in fewer episodes
“The Walking Dead” season 8 will feature the much anticipated All Out War, but not every series character may be able to fully participate in the battle. Last season’s finale saw a handful of people taste the bitter flavours of warfare, which could lead to reduced screen time for some of them in the upcoming episodes.
Spoiler alert: This article contains plot details about the eighth season of “The Walking Dead,” which will premiere in October of this year. Australian viewers will be available to watch the new season on Foxtel.
Michonne was barely left for dead by Farron during last season’s finale. The Scavenger had the upper hand most of the time during their fight and had her beaten almost to a pulp. Good thing Michonne had the chance to push her precariously towards the balcony’s edge during their scuffle.
Michonne wasn’t the only TWD good gal that came out scathed. Rosita was also badly hurt during the precursor to the All Out War. She unfortunately got shot during the fire fight that the reanimated Sasha helped start, but was then aided by Tara to the infirmary.
The last time the fans saw Rosita was when she was in bed recuperating, with Tara next to her. Rosita’s injury and the fact that Christian Serratos – the actress who plays her – is actually pregnant indicate that the character could have reduced screen time next season. Fans may also see less of Michonne in season 8, although the reason may not be entirely injury-related.
Danai Gurira, who plays Rick Grimes’ girlfriend on the AMC series, is currently busy filming “Avengers: Infinity War,” her second Marvel movie. The first, which is “Black Panther,” is currently undergoing post-production. But it doesn’t mean that Gurira is already off the hook from that movie.
“Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler may still do some re-shoots for the film, which is scheduled for release in February 2018. This may cause conflict with the production of “The Walking Dead” season 8, which started in late April.
As Comicbook notes, the show may already be filming the fourth or fifth episode of the upcoming season, with each instalment taking at least over a week’s worth of work. Gurira has also been busy promoting “All Eyez on Me,” a biographical drama film about hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur, in which the actress played the rapper’s mother Afeni.
With everything that’s currently going in Gurira’s blossoming career, fans may see Michonne take a backseat for some time on “The Walking Dead” season 8. She’ll still be there for the All Out War, but Michonne is likely going to take her time resting while Gurira is rolling.
