"The Walking Dead" is one of the most popular shows, while the show is taking a break after the Season 5 mid-season finale, updates about the spinoff are coming in.

According to TVLine's report, AMC's "The Walking Dead" spinoff will be set in Los Angeles. The network stated earlier that the spinoff of the hit zombie show will focus on the unexplored corner of the apocalypse.

"Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead (which is set in Atlanta), fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world," Charlie Collier, AMC President said (obtained via TVLine).

Back in 2013, Charlie said in a statement that the network wants to work with Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and Dave again. Robert stated that he is thrilled to explore a new corner of TWD world.

"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."

"The Walking Dead" spinoff is also known as "Cobalt." Cliff Curtis has been roped in to play Sean Cabrera. He is a teacher and has a son with his former wife, Andrea.

Nancy Tomkins is the female lead and she works with Sean at the school as a guidance counsellor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anna Torv was one of the actresses who could have played the part. However, she is no longer in the race.

Alycia Debnam Carey plays Nancy's daughter Ashley. Frank Dillane plays the character of Nick, Nancy's son. The character has dealt with drug issues.
