Walter White Jailed For Meth Dealing; ‘Breaking Bad’ Anti-Hero Namesake Gets 12 Years

“Breaking Bad” might have played a different fate for its main, anti-hero character, but in real life, Walter White has been sentenced to jail. In a case of life imitating art, a real-life meth dealer sharing the name of the fictional TV show character was arrested and sentenced to spend 12 years in jail on Monday.

Walter Jack White was arrested in January after he was found selling meth to Nebraska oil field workers. According to the UK Telegraph, he was discovered to be the main meth dealer in the region when his son, Brandon Jay Joseph White, shot him over an alleged disputed drug debt.

In March, officers obtained a warrant to search Mr White’s house, which led them to discover four ounces of meth, valued at USD10,000, two handguns, and more than USD15,000 cash.

The 53-year-old Billing, Montana resident was charged with possession of meth for distribution and possession of two firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. He pleaded guilty to both charges as part of a plea deal.

He apologised for his crimes, claiming that meth dealing wasn’t in his character but he got addicted to the drug. He tried to get out of it, but his suppliers threatened him.

U.S. District Judge Don Molloy held Mr White responsible for approximately 32 pounds of meth, sentencing him to nine years in prison for meth dealing and three years for firearms conviction. Mr White was also handed five years of probation, which will prevent him from owning a gun or any other dangerous weapon.

“He ended up getting shot by his son,” Judge Molloy said. “Thirty two and a half pounds of methamphetamine coupled with guns and violence is about as serious as you can get.”

Mr White shares the same name with Walter White, a television character played by actor Bryan Cranston in the recently concluded show “Breaking Bad.”

Like the real Mr White, fictional White was also a meth dealer. He resorted to manufacturing and selling the drug after he was diagnosed with lung cancer to secure his family’s finances. Unlike Mr White, though, Walter Hartwell White died at the final episode of the series.
