Warriors' Klay Thompson believes he’s the best shooting guard in the NBA
Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors stated with confidence in a recent interview that he is the best shooting guard in the NBA today. With the California team owning a league-best, and record-breaking, 26-1 win-loss record so far this season, a few can argue of Thompson’s claims that he is best player in his position.
The other half of the “Splash Brothers”, along with another lights-out shooter and league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Stephen Curry, Thompson has been a major factor in the Warriors’ great start to the 2015-2016 season.
"I'm going to go with myself," Thompson said to Inside Bay Area when asked to name his top shooting guard in the league. "We're 26-1."
Golden State broke the record for the best start in league history winning 24 straight games to start the season. Dating back to last season, Golden State also won 28 straight games, the second longest streak in regular season history.
“When you play with a free mind and you play thinking you're not hurt and you're healthy, that's when you're playing your best," Thompson added. "I want to continue playing like this, get better every month.”
The 25-year-old Thompson was the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Warriors and by his second year in Golden State, he had the starting job at shooting guard locked up.
Playing in his fifth year in the league, Thompson has career averages of 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists with 2.6 three-point shots made per game, at a shooting clip of 42.0 per cent from behind the arc.
This season, Thompson averages 19.3 points, second-leading scorer for the team and sixth overall in the entire league behind the likes of James Harden (Houston Rockets), DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors), Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls), Andrew Wiggins (Minnesota Timberwolves) and C.J. McCollum (Portland Trail Blazers).
Among all shooting guards, he ranks third in field goal percentage (47.3%) and second in three-point field goal percentage (43.7%).
