Watch Benedict Cumberbatch Take ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Six Times, ‘Sherlock’ Actor Cast As Shere Khan [VIDEO]
Popular British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock Holmes of BBC "Sherlock," has taken the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. He took the challenge not once but several times -- six times in total. He took it while sitting down on a bench, in the shower after stripping down, fully dressed in a black suit, twice while sitting on his motorcycle and finally while going towards his car. Tom Hiddleston, Juno Temple and Adelaide Clemens had nominated him to take the ice bucket challenge.
"My name's Benedict Cumberbatch and I've been nominated to take the ice bucket challenge by Tom Hiddleston, Juno Temple, and Adelaide Clemens," he is seen saying before getting drenched.
The BBC "Sherlock" actor has nominated Harvey Weinstein, Kylie Minogue and Lewis Hamilton to take the challenge. The ice challenge tries to raise money for the ALS foundation as well as spread awareness about the progressive neurodegenerative disease.
Meanwhile, Cumberbatch has been cast as the voice of Shere Khan, the tiger, in Warner Bros "Jungle Book-Origins" film. He is the first actor to be cast in this movie, which is based on Rudyard Kipling's famous fable "The Jungle Book."
Gollum of "The Lord of the Rings" film series, Andy Serkins, will be making his directorial debut with this film. Irish Independent is reporting that Jack Reynor, Cate Blanchett and Christian Bale have also joined the cast of "Jungle Book-Origins." Callie Kloves has written the script of the film, while Callie's father, Steve Kloves is producing it.
And, Cumberbatch is expected to join the cast of "Sherlock" Season 4 in Jan. 2015 to film a Christmas special episode. Later in 2015, he will be shooting the three episodes of "Sherlock" Season 4, the production of which has been delayed because of Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's busy acting schedules. "Sherlock" Season 4 is expected to premiere sometime in early 2016.
