WATCH THIS: Colts Kicker Pat McAfee Can Tackle, Too
Prank or not, McAfee received a summons to a random urine doping test the day after his hit on Holliday. He was previously arrested and suspended for one game for public intoxication in 2010 but has been a law-abiding citizen ever since. A place kicker does not exactly fit the tough, burly stereotype of NFL players. More often than not, kickers are the smallest, least buffed players on any team, much like hobbits in Tolkien's fantasy world.
At 6-feet-one and 220 pounds, kicker Pat McAfee of the Indianapolis Colts is still bigger than the usual American but looks diminutive when standing beside his giant teammates. On Sunday, though, he proved himself as a legitimate American football player when he made a tackle, possibly the first in his four-year NFL career.
During the first half of the Colts' game against the Denver Broncos, 5-foot-5, 169-pound Broncos kick returner Trindon Holliday found a seam and darted along the sideline for a possible touchdown. Suddenly, McAfee appeared out of nowhere and hit Holliday hard with his helmet, causing the latter to crash out.
Although the tackle appeared to be of a helmet-to-helmet variety, a no-no in the NFL, it was not penalised, with Web site Pro Football Talk claiming that only the side, not the top, of the helmet was used.
Still, the impact of the kicker's hit went viral, with even rough-housing Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh reacting on Twitter: “Big hit by the kicker on [Sunday Night Football]! Wonder if he will get a ……..? #BroncosVsColts.” Suh himself has been fined several times for what many perceive as dirty play.
Prank or not, McAfee received a summons to a random urine doping test the day after his hit on Holliday and posted a picture of it on Twitter.
"You have been randomly selected by the NFL drug test problem’s Medical Advisor to complete a urine doping test today,” the memo reads.
The four-year kicker out of West Virginia laughed at the improbability of the situation, tweeting, " “Guys…Make one random tackle…And end up on a “Random” steroid test...Must be my bod."
McAfee was previously arrested and suspended for one game for public intoxication in 2010, but has been a law-abiding citizen ever since.
