With French Open 2016 postponed for the last couple of days because of bad weather, Andy Murray and Radek Stepanek resumed their grapple on Tuesday. Murray won three sets out of five.
The resume of their match began with Stepanek playing brilliantly in terms of pacing and spins. Unfortunately, his strategy was overturned when Murray took the third set in 23 minutes, New York Times reports.
“It was an obviously an extremely difficult match, very tricky and challenging,” Murray said. The final set was a straight up brawl with Murray coming out on top. According to Mirror, the final set lasted for 71 minutes. Murray won with two painful points from Stepanek. The score was 3-6, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, 7-5.
“Incredible match,” Stepanek said. “Tough battle. I can be proud of what a game I played pushing Andy into the corner after what he’s done on clay this year.”
After the match, Murray proceeded to address concerning rumours that Amélie Mauresmo broke up with him because of court behaviour.
“Me and Amélie have a very good relationship,” Murray said, as reported by The Guardian, “and I don’t think it’s fair to try to say otherwise.”
The rumours started after Murray and Mauresmo were supposedly arguing in Madrid with the latter finally getting fed up with his behaviour on court. Murray emphasises that they were calm at that time and that none of his comments in the last two days were meant to hit back at Mauresmo.
Meanwhile, in the women’s singles, ESPN reports that Serena Williams breezed through on Tuesday against Magdalena Rybarikova with an astounding score of 6-2, 6-0
