Watch Indian Wells 2016: Novak Djokovic vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga quarterfinal preview, live streaming info and score updates
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will look to display another dominating performance when he faces France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinal round of the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells.
Djokovic avenged his only lost this season after the Serb dismissed Spain’s Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round of Indian Wells 6-3 6-3.
The 28-year-old Serb, who is looking for a record fifth Indian Wells title, suffered his lone defeat of his 2016 record against Lopez at the Dubai Tennis Championships last month, where the Serb retired hurt due to an eye problem. Djokovic was glad to face the Spaniard without any complications and is poised to continue his stellar form into the quarterfinals against Tsonga, who bypassed Austria’s Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-2.
“I'm glad to have a match like this, without many complications,” Djokovic said, reports the ATP’s official website. “I managed to step in and return very well…even though Feliciano is a very difficult player to play against. It was a good performance.”
Djokovic leads Tsonga by 14-6 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head matchup, with the Serb winning 10 of the last 11 meetings. Heading into their quarterfinal clash, Djokovic is still touted as the favourite, although the 30-year-old Frenchman also has the capability to upset the top seed in the first ATP 1000 Masters event of the year.
If Djokovic gets past Tsonga, he could face the winner of career rival Rafael Nadal and Kei Nishikori, who battle it out in the other half of the quarterfinals bracket. Nadal continued his winning ways after a come-from-behind victory over Germany’s Alexander Zverev, while Nishikori escaped a close match against American John Isner to advance into the QF stage.
