Just when the action at the FIBA Americas Championship is about to rev up, the FIBA EuroBasket Championship takes the spotlight as 24 elite basketball teams engaged in a three-week battle for the right to play in next year's FIBA World Cup in Spain along with the crown as Europe's finest.

FIBA Americas Championship moved on to the second round with Puerto Rico coming in as the only undefeated team. However, perennial contender Argentina appears to finally awaken from their early slump after subduing previously undefeated Mexico 98-78 emphatically on Tuesday.

Canada also finished the first round with a bang following their 93-67 mastery over Uruguay, who surprisingly advanced to the next round. Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Venezuela made their way to the second round while Paraguay and Brazil exited early after failing to win a single game.

Meanwhile, defending champion Spain is out to prove they are still the best team in Europe, kicking off its campaign against Croatia. Russia, the last team to dethrone Spain from European basketball thrown, will be taking on Italy while Germany and France are also set to duke it out on the hard court. Host nation Slovenia will kick off their tournament against Czech Republic.
