Wayne Rooney might be on his way out of Old Trafford, but that won't stop Manchester United from showing its might against AIK Stockholm in a pre-season friendly game on Wednesday, 2:00 pm GMT.

The Red Devils are out to prove they can still play very well on the field despite the absence of Rooney, who reportedly sustained a shoulder injury in a closed-door scrimmage with Real Betis at Carrington on Saturday.

According to manager David Moyes, Rooney suffered the injury after having a hard fall, though he didn't expect his ace striker to sit too long.

"Wayne hurt his shoulder in a fall during a match on Saturday. It's not too serious and I don't expect it to keep him out for too long.

"I'm disappointed he's missing the game because we were keen to get him back involved and ready to play," Moyes told ESPN.co.uk

Rooney has been subject of transfer rumours for the past few weeks after Chelsea showed their intention to acquire the prolific striker. According to reports, the Blues offered the Red Devils a bid of £30 million for Rooney, but Manchester immediately rejected the offer.

Even without Rooney, Manchester United will be fielding a pretty formidable united with Robin Van Persie, Shinji Kanagawa, Ryan Giggs, and Patrice Evra all expected to play against a pretty solid Stockholm squad in Sweden.

The Red Devils are preparing for their upcoming Community Shield clash against Wigan on Sunday.
