AT&T U-verse has launched more than 100 live channels on iPhones and iPads. Users will now be able to stream more than 100 channels live on their iOS device. The live channels can be viewed from both inside the house and while travelling.

For the viewers who wish to watch live channels while travelling may not get all the channels, but they can select from over 20 channels offered by the service. The channels can be accessed using the U-verse app.

The new service is available to customers who have the U-family or higher U-verse TV package on their iPhone and iPad devices. The company is expected to expand the list of the available channels that will be streamed live on an ongoing basis.

"By making live TV content available across devices we're enabling our customers to watch TV on their terms when and where they want it," said Mel Coker, Chief Marketing Officer, AT&T Home Solutions.

The channels available for live stream, subject to geographic restriction, include HBO, MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, History, CNBC, MSNBC and many others. Channels like HDNet Movies, Showtime and NFL Network are available outside the home.

Exclusive articles and interviews can be accessed by the iPad from the UGUIDE Magazine. Users can also view the latest videos and trailers in the magazine.

Apart from the live TV, the app also provides thousands of on demand TV shows and movies. Additional information about the TV shows is also provided like episode synopsis, photos, cast and crew information and related TV shows et al. All the information can be viewed on the users' iPhone or iPad devices.

The AT&T U-verse TV is among the fastest growing TV provider in the U.S. The company was named the Frost & Sullivan's 2013 Video Company of the Year. AT&T U-verse also recently received the Women's Choice Award for the "Most Recommended Internet Provider" category.

The feature is set to help users to catch up on their favourite TV shows even when they are not at home. The press release of the company said that the app could come in particularly handy in situations like waiting for a doctor's appointment where parents need to keep their children occupied.

Devices like the iPhone and iPad are increasingly used by customers for entertainment like watching TV shows and movies. Analysts speculate the devices could also be increasingly used to watch live TV.
