Watch Miami Open 2016: Novak Djokovic vs Kyle Edmund Round of 64 preview, live streaming info and score updates
Novak Djokovic hopes to follow up his already remarkable season when faces Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund in Round of 64 of the Miami Open.
Djokovic will bid for a sixth and third-straight Miami Open title when the 11-time Grand Slam winner squares off with Edmund, who defeated Czech Jiri Vesely 6-4 5-7 7-6(6) to advance into the Round of 64. The 28-year-old Serb is coming off another masterful performance that earned him an unprecedented fifth Indian Wells title after defeating Canada’s Milos Raonic in the final round of the tournament.
“He’s very calm, seems very mature for his age, the way he behaves off the court; he’s very respectful of the game,” Djokovic said of Edmund, reports the ATP’s official website. “He’s one of the youngsters everyone is looking up to and expecting to make a breakthrough.”
Djokovic has never faced Edmund in any ATP tournaments, which would make it difficult for the world No. 1 to gauge the 21-year-old South African-born tennis pro. But Djokovic is still the huge favourite to win his first round match after winning all the tournaments he joined this season.
On the other hand, Edmund, who needed two-and-a-half hour to dispatch Vesely in the Round of 128, said he is “very excited” to face Djokovic, but admitted it would be a tough match going against one of the best players in the sport.
"I'm very excited," Edmund said, reports the BBC. "It will be a tough match, he's obviously the guy to beat at the moment. It will be a great experience just to see where my game is at."
Meanwhile, a returning Roger Federer, who enters the Miami Open as the third seed, is set to face Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro, who defeated his compatriot Guido Pella 6-0 7-6(4). It will be the Swiss Maestro’s first competition after recovering from a knee surgery that repaired a torn left meniscus.
