Watch Miami Open 2016: Rafael Nadal vs Damir Dzumhur Round of 64 preview, live streaming info and score updates
Rafael Nadal will attempt to win his first ATP World Tour-level title of the season, when the King of Clay faces Bosnian Damir Dzumhur in Round of 64 of the Miami Open at Crandon Park Tennis Center.
Nadal’s quest to find his old form resumes at the Miami Open, where the Spaniard takes an opponent he has yet to face in his career. The 29-year-old is coming off a semifinal loss against Novak Djokovic at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, but Nadal seems to have found renewed confidence heading into his clash against Dzumhur, who defeated Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer 4-6 6-3 6-4.
“If I play against him it's because I am in semi-finals and finals, so that's very positive news,” Nadal said, reports the ATP’s official website. “Even if I lose, [it's] great news.”
In all of Nadal’s 12 appearances at the Miami Open, the 14-time Grand Slam winner has never won a title in as many attempts as he had. This year, Nadal will have a chance for his first ever title in Miami, but his uncle and coach Toni thinks the world No. 5 is up for another tough draw, with a potential clash against Canada’s Milos Raonic in Round of 16.
“It's a difficult draw, like the Indian Wells one,” Toni told Cadena Ser as translated by Tennis World USA. “I do not look draws because to me it seems first rounds are tough.”
The winner between Nadal and Dzumhur could face either Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan or Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, who also received a first-round bye.
Meanwhile, Djokovic opens his bid for a fifth and third-straight Miami Open title against Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund, who defeated Jiri Vesely to advance into the next stage of the tournament.
