China’s Li Na has a total of seven WTA singles titles and $12,108,289 winnings in her career but none came in the China Open. A curious fact considering she has homecourt advantage in this tournament with the event happening in Beijing, China.

Wednesday evening, she has a chance to again move closer to that dream of winning a championship at home when she faces Sabine Lisicki from Germany in the Round of 16 of the 2013 China Open.

Lisicki, 13th seed in this tourney, defeated Chanelle Scheepers, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round and beat Venus Williams, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round.

Fourth seed Li dominated Daniela Hantuchova, 6-0, 6-4 and Bojana Jovanovski, 6-0, 6-1 in the first two rounds.

While Li is the higher ranked player in the WTA rankings--the Chinese is currently ranked at 5th and the German is ranked 16th--Lisicki has the slight edge in their all-time head-to-head matches, 2-1.

Lisicki won two match-ups in 2011 in Stuttgart, Germany (6-4, 7-5 in the Round of 16) and Wimbledon (3-6, 6-4, 8-6 in the Round of 64) but Li won in the lone meeting in 2012 in a tournament in Miami, U.S.A. (3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16).

The last three champions in women’s singles competition of the China Open are Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) in 2012, Agnieszka Radwańska (Poland) in 2011 and Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) in 2010.
