Safe to say, history will be against the Northwestern Wildcats when they host the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night. The more successful and definitely more recognisable Ohio State football programme has practically owned their counterparts in their head-to-head meetings in the modern era.

Since 1973, the Buckeyes have won 28 of 29 games vs. Northwestern. The lone win came in 2004 when the Wildcats upset the Buckeyes in overtime, 33-27.

After that loss, however, Ohio State once again stamped their class and won in dominating fashion to get back the winning streak. The Buckeyes had winning margins of 41, 44, 51 and 35 points against the Wildcats in the next four match-ups.

However, Northwestern wants to forget the past and build on their present winning streak this season. They are aiming for their second 5-0 start in as many years, after convincing wins over California (44-30), Syracuse (48-27), Western Michigan (38-17) and Maine (35-21).

Ohio State is looking to protect their perfect record as well. They have stringed five straight wins, including 76-0 drubbing of Florida A&M in Week 5.

Both of these teams are known for their excellent ground game. The Buckeyes are 12th in the nation in rushing (287.2 yards/game) while the Wildcats are 18th in the same category at 249.5 yards per outing.
