Back in 1987, when American Hip Hop band Beastie Boys had first released its tune "Girls" would have never imagined that thirty years down the line it'll become a viral hit. Since the time the latest and altered version of Beastie Boys' "Girls" as GoldieBlox ad has been posted on YouTube on Nov. 17, 2013 it has become a viral sensation. The video has now been viewed more than 8,141,000 times by now. But the video that encourages girls to pursue engineering has also instigated a legal dispute.

The inspirational viral video by GoldieBlox an American toy company released an ad using Beastie Boys' classic hit "Girls," as a part of their marketing campaign. In no time it caught immense attention and became a successful marketing sensation.

GoldieBlox ad features three girls who seem bored with watching girly stuff. So they pull out their toys and create a Rube Goldberg machine. The ad became the hot topic of discussion on the Internet as it stirs up the idea of women empowerment and their involvement in the field of technology and science. The ad brings forth the idea of encouraging girls to pursue career in technology and engineering fields.

Despite of stirring up discussions of essential attributes of society and receiving positive feedback, the viral video has invited a legal battle. According to a lawsuit from GoldieBlox filed on Thursday Nov. 21, 2013 "the Beastie Boys have now threatened GoldieBlox with copyright infringement." In defense, the toy company claims the rendition to be a satirical version of the song not a mere rip-off. This claim comes in the light of altered lyrics of the ad version of the song.

The court filing by the Lawyers of the Beastie Boys states that it "is a copyright infringement, is not a fair use and that GoldieBlox's unauthorized use of the Beastie Boys intellectual property is a 'big problem' that has a 'very significant impact."

In response to which GoldieBlox is approaching California Federal court demanding "declaratory relief" in the legal dispute.

In the defense the lawsuit by GoldieBlox states: "GoldieBlox created its parody video with specific goals to make fun of the Beastie Boys song, and to further the company's goal to break down gender stereotypes and to encourage young girls to engage in activities that challenge their intellect, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The GoldieBlox Girls Parody Video has gone viral on the Internet and has been recognized by the press and the public as a parody and criticism of the original song."

The original lyrics of the song reads: Girls, to do the dishes/ Girls, to clean up my room/ Girls, to do the laundry/ Girls, and in the bathroom/..."
And the lyrics of viral video of GoldieBlox ad featuring Beastie Boys' song "Girls," replaces the original lyrics. It reads: "Girls -- to build the spaceship/ Girls -- to code the new app/ Girls -- to grow up knowing/ That they can engineer that/ Girls. That's all we really need is girls."
