Because of American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr's unbeaten record with 0 loss, the World Boxing Council (WBC) said on Wednesday that they will crown him as Supreme Champion.

The WBC made the decision at the ongoing 51st WBC Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, reports Boxing Scene. The title will be presented to Mayweather at a special event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

WBC Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman said in a statement that the honorific title of Supreme Champion is "a recognition of our admiration to a champion who has conquered five titles in the same amount of divisions, plus he has earned the WBC diamond and emeritus titles and the golden belt."

Sulaiman pointed out that Mayweather has broken every boxing record and while the title is not equivalent to another championship, it places Mayweather in the ranks of the best boxers such as Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran.

He did not mention Filipino boxer and eight-division title holder Manny Pacquiao, who used to be known as Pound-for-Pound King but has tainted his record with 2 recent losses in the hands of Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.

But Pacquiao insisted he is not over the hill yet and not ready to retire from his boxing career. However, if he loses his next bout with Brandon Rios, the so-called dream fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao may not happen at all.

In contrast, Mayweather improved his boxing record to 45-0 with two impressive wins in 2013 against Mexican boxer Saul Alvarez and Robert Guerrero.
