Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to drive. But several of them drove their cars Saturday Oct. 26 and posted videos on YouTube to protest against the ban. About 17,000 people have signed an appeal against the ban as the world frowns against the Saudi government for having such a weird belief about women.

One may be shocked how the world thinks of women. TIME takes a look at some of the weirdest beliefs about women.

Bad Mother Autism

Leo Kanner, a psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins University, held mothers responsible for her child who suffers autism. He apparently identified a relation between detached intellectualism among parents and autism. When a mother lacks in parental warmth, her child tends to be autistic.

Wandering Wombs

Hippocrates, an ancient physician from Greece, believed that a 'wandering womb' (a displaced uterus) was responsible for all the medical problems plaguing women. The problems women suffered included knee problems and excessive emotion. Hysteria, known to be a symptom of the disease, depends on the movement of the uterus.

Sterility Reading

Harvard, Dr. Edward Clarke, a Harvard physician, published a book where he voiced his take on women who read a lot. He said those women could suffer from sterility. They could also suffer from the atrophy of the ovaries and uterus. His logic was that too much blood flow rushes to the brain when a woman reads a lot of books. Thus their reproductive organs get damaged.

Tiny Feet

Millions of Chinese women had to break their feet for more than 10 centuries to look hot. Their feet were bandaged since childhood to prevent growth as it was believed that tiny feet were extremely beautiful. Additionally, these were thought to be a status symbol. There was a ban imposed on the practice in 1912. However, the practice is still allegedly to be in vogue underground.
