'Wentworth' season 5 cast: Danielle Cormack not part of cast list
“Wentworth” season 5 is all geared as release date and promotional clip dropped. While it may be good news to the majority of fans, the show’s lead character for the past four seasons, will not be back for season 5. Speculations ran that the series will be cancelled following the death of Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack)
On its official website, Foxtel dropped the names of returning cast members for the fifth season. Cormack's name was not mentioned.
It seems executive producer Jo Porter was really serious when she confirmed that Bea was dead. It looks like she also meant there will be no sight of Bea next season. “It is always an incredibly difficult decision to say farewell to a much-loved and revered character like Bea Smith,” she said.
Even some Reddit users seem to have lost hope of Bea’s involvement in season 5. “Nah, she's dead. I don't care what they say. I was a firm believer in her surviving, but I've lost hope,” a Reddit user wrote.
Nicole da Silva (Franky Doyle), Kate Atkinson (Vera Bennett) and Sigrid Thornton (Sonia Stevens) are sure to be back in season 5, as confirmed by Foxtel. Celia Ireland (Liz Birdsworth), Katrina Milosevic (Sue "Boomer" Jenkins) and Shareena Clanton (Doreen Anderson) are also returning this season.
Moreover, Robbie Magasiva (Will Jackson) Bernard Curry (Jake Stewart) and Socratis Otto (Maxine Conway) are also part of season 5. Even Bea’s lesbian lover, Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson), will be back after waking up from a coma last season.
Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) will face the consequences of killing Bea in season 5 as confirmed in the teaser clip. In the promo video, Joan appears challenged in facing all the other inmates, who are in mourning of their prison’s top dog.
Interestingly, Kaz Proctor (Tammy MacIntosh) will play a pivotal role in season 5 but will also possibly not take revenge on Joan. According to Foxtel, she will be the new prison top dog and will be tasked to restore order among the inmates.
Supporting cast members were also recently announced. These include Libby Tanner (Bridget Westfall), Jacquie Brennan (Linda Miles), Martin Sacks (Derek Channing), Sally-Anne Upton (Lucy Gambaro) and Steve Bastoni (Don Kaplan).
Meanwhile, Porter told TVWeek that the demise of Bea will open the gates for new storylines. “Wentworth” season 4 previously aired on SoHo. Season 5 premieres on April 4 at 8:30 p.m. EST on Showcase.
