Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack) was confirmed dead by “Wentworth” showrunners. This means a new person will take on the much-coveted top dog post. There are reports that Joan “The Freak” Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) may most likely inherit the position, as it may be her purpose for killing Smith in the first place.

Ferguson could be perfect as the next top dog given her reputation in killing. As a refresher for some fans, top dog means the boss of other inmates and “The Freak” might just have what it takes to be that.

However, some fans are not convinced with the theory that Ferguson will be the new top dog. She will likely suffer the consequences of murdering Smith.

If it won’t be Ferguson, who will get the post? It could be Franky Doyle (Nicole da Silva) or Vera Bennett (Kate Atkinson) who will be hailed as the new top dog. Right now, fans are left guessing about who among the remaining characters will seat in the coveted throne in “Wentworth” season 5.

But fans can be assured that a new top dog will be introduced as confirmed by Penny Win, the commission editor in drama for Foxtel. Win has hinted that one of the inmates may replace Smith.

News.com.au has previously reported that Cormack’s character is really dead in the show as confirmed by producer Jo Porter. He said it is a tough decision to bid goodbye to a beloved character like Bea Smith. “Which is why this storyline has had such a huge impact on us all and we are sure fans will feel the same. This decision was particularly hard as it meant also saying goodbye to Danielle Cormack,” the producer elaborated.

“Wentworth” airs on SoHo in Australia. Air date for its fifth season is yet to be announced.
