Blade actor Wesley Snipes has surrendered to authorities today. Snipes will be serving his three year sentence for tax evasion for which he was convicted back in 2008.

Snipes was seen at Bradford Regional Airport in Pennsylvania near the federal prison. According to entertainment Web site TMZ, the actor was waiting for a rental car which will take him to the facility where he will be imprisoned for the next three years.

According to TMZ, Traci Billingsley, Chief Public Information Officer for the Bureau of Prisons ,announced that "Wesley Snipes has self surrendered to the minimum security Federal Prison Camp at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean, in Bradford, Pennsylvania."

Wesley Snipes has previously request to serve his tax evasion sentence from January 9, 2011, but this was denied by a federal judge. Snipes arequested the postponement of his sentence so he could spend the holidays with his four children. Instead, the court required the actor to start his sentence starting today, reasoning that the sooner he serves his sentence, the sooner his ordeals will end.

The judge also observed that the Blade actor had been given enough time to set his affairs in order since his sentence has been in abeyance for the past two and a half years.

A federal court found Snipes guilty of not paying his taxes from his reported $38 million earnings since 1999. He was also slapped with several misdemeanor and felony offenses. The 48-year-old star has been acquitted of more serious felony charges but he has not been able to escape sentencing for his 2008 felony tax conviction.
